This is Cold Laser or Low Level Light Therapy - a therapy that can stop the pain from a bulging disc, the pain and numbness from carpal tunnel, shoulder pain, headaches including migraines, reduce TMJ or dental pain but can also be used to help you stop smoking as well as reduce the wrinkles in your face.
These are just some of the amazing things that Cold Laser Therapy is capable of doing.
What is Cold Laser?
Laser is a powerful stream of light that travels in a very precise straight line, without scattering.
Light from a simple light bulb in your living room goes out in all directions from the bulb, and although it may be very bright to look at, it has very little power and aside from lighting the room – no real effect.
Much of the light you see from the sun is ultraviolet light. It also goes in all directions and it is on the hot end of the light spectrum. This is why you get a sun burn and why surgeons can use ultraviolet lasers to make an incision.
Infrared laser light, on the other hand, is from the cold end of the light spectrum, thus the term “cold laser”. Our eye is unable to see this wavelength, and while it does not have the high energy of an ultraviolet laser, with just the right wavelength and enough power behind it, it can penetrate up to 2 inches deep into a damaged disc in your spine or an injured knee joint.
What’s So Special About That?
Infrared light has anti-inflammatory capabilities, and because of that, it causes a reduction in swelling (bulging discs…, swollen carpal tunnel ligaments in your wrist, swollen ligaments in your knee, swollen, painful TMJ ligaments, etc.
In addition to helping to reduce swelling, infrared laser also causes a release of serotonin which is nature’s own magic pain killer. If you make serotonin you stop hurting. Cold Laser therapy gives you the effect of taking a Motrin or Cymbalta without swallowing the pill, except that its effect lasts longer and there’s no nasty side effects.
Read more about the effects of serotonin in Backdoconline blog entry, dated: October 26, 2011.
For the same reason, If used to stimulate specific acupuncture points, cold laser can also cause you to produce serotonin and you will stop smoking. Serotonin diminishes your craving for nicotine.
That’s not all…
The third great benefit of Cold Laser is that it stimulates tissue and collagen repair. Collagen is what all of your muscles, ligaments and skin is made up of. Torn muscles need collagen repair to heal. Bulging discs need collagen repair to heal. Those wrinkles in your face – they’re due to a breakdown of collagen. Repair the collagen and lose your wrinkles.
Cold laser reduces the inflammation and swelling, it stops the pain and triggers the healing.
We have successfully treated people with Cold Laser for sinus pain, headaches, TMJ pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel pain, knee pain, and back pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis and we have turned smokers into non-smokers.
Cold Laser is an alternative for those in pain who do not like getting a chiropractic adjustment. It is painless and a typical treatment takes about 10 minutes. Many conditions require more than one treatment, but many people report feeling better before they leave the office and almost everybody sees improvement within hours.
