When you have a headache, your back is killing you, you have an aching sore neck or you’re just in pain for no particular reason and you get up Monday morning feeling like a truck hit you during the night...Do you run to the medicine cabinet and pop a few Advils?
Does that make you better or just feel better?
I know that in many cases it probably does make you feel better. In many situations it’s likely that that is all it will take to feel "normal" again. Am I right?
Do you think that maybe the pain you’re feeling has an underlying reason or cause to it and it’s not a lack of Advil.
Do you think the Advil is making the underlying condition or problem go away?
Another thought - if you were supposed to have Advil in your blood stream don’t you think your body might make its own?
When you take an Advil or similar pain remedy, besides stopping your pain you’re doing a few other things to your body that if you knew...you might not want to do it.
The way Advil works is it breaks a chain of neuro-chemical events that would otherwise permit you to feel the pain. When the pill wears off it allows the chain of events to continue again - but very often worse than originally.
The pain pill also shuts off the "alarms" that should be interpreted as "something is wrong"
Pain is a "check engine light"
Defeat that check engine light before you fix the reason it’s lit and bigger problems may very likely be on their way.
It’s kinda like taking the battery out of your smoke alarm because it keeps beeping... but never investigating why it’s beeping.
So, knowing that - are you happy with the short term relief from the pain pill, knowing that there’s a bigger problem lying just beneath the surface?
Don’t you think you deserve a little bit better than that and to find out what that problem may be?
